My Optimal Utorrent Configuration
(Visited 33619 times)
I have tested many settings and bittorent software but this is the best I could get for maximum download speed.
- Enable Upnp port mapping (checked)
- Add utorrent to Windows Firewall exceptions (checked)
- Global maximum upload rate (30) kB/s
- Alternate upload (35) kB/s
- Global maximum number of connections: 150
- Maximum number of connected peers per torrent: 50
- Number of upload slots per torrent: 4
- Use additional upload slots if upload speed
- Maximum number of active torrent: 3
- Maximum number of active downloads: 2
- Enable DHT network (unchecked)
- Enable DHT for new torrent (unchecked)
- Enable Peer Exchange (checked)
- Enable scrapping (checked)
- Pre-allocate all files (unchecked)
- Seed ration: 150%
That’s all. Other than that, I just leave it as default. My internet speed is 1MB kbps download and 384 kbps upload, and I my system is Pentium III 866MHz with 256MB RAM.
Please give some feedback on my setting. Is it help? If you like this post or find it helpful, please digg it here. Thanks!

what is global maximum download rate.
& my download rate is not increasing
it is 4kb/s and updoad is 17kb/s

i have done everything u have mentioned, it doubled my speed to 40 kb/s, which is very very low. I have pentium 4, xp, 256 MB ram, 1.80 GHz, and an ultra high speed internet. I should be getting atleast 200 kb/s. The problem that i think is the router configuration. I have trendNet router hooked up to my desktop annd laptop. Any suggestion on how to configure router as well as utorrent to get the optimal download rate. Any suggestions will be deeply appreciated.
I can’t wait for the response.
Thanks.
May GOD bless all of us and have the bit torrent software alive!!

you need to port forward, or set an application exception in your router… how to do this is different for each router, so you’ll need to do a lil bit of googling… goodluck

here is a good page for configure port forward http://portforward.com/routers.htm .Got many routers there!

thanks for the response guys. i did port forwarding and removed the firewall. I have the green light on utorrent, which means that there is no firewall or port forwarding problem. It may be Max download speed and Max uploading speed. I checked the speed for my connection and it gave me (download 4066 kb/s and upload 327 kb/s). So, what values should i put in utorrent?
Also, when i am downloading, the speed fluctuates a lot. Sometimes it goes as high as 51 kb/s and it suddenly it drops down to 3 or 5 kb/s. WHY?
Please help as i am really fed up with all the configurations, just need the damn thing to work. Is it too much ask?
thanks

Fez, something that you may not realize is the uTorrent shows it’s upload and download rates in kB/s not kb/s. The difference is that kB/s is kilobyte per second and kb/s is kilobit per second. If you want to know kb/s, which most bandwidth tests measure you must take you speed from uTorrent which is given in kB/s and multiply by 8. So if uTorrent shows you are getting 40 kB/s, that’s really 320 kb/s. Hope that clears it up. Also as far as the fluctuation goes, it all depends on who you are downloading from and how many seeders are available. The more seeders the faster you download rate.

Hi.
I have just made the switch from Azureus as I felt the CPU usage was not great.
I am getting around 450kb/s download from Oink but my upload will only manage as fast as 7kb/s.
How do I increase this?
I want to max the upload to get a good ratio.
I have an average speed (test) 3810 down and 359 up.
Please help!!
Thanks,
Alan
