Bausch & Lomb Recalls MoistureLoc Contact Lens Solution
After more than one month of a fungal infection outbreak that can cause blindness, Bausch & Lomb, at last, recalls it’s MoistureLoc contact lens solution. Bausch & Lomb said it has permanently removed the solution from markets worldwide.
Although, there is no evidence, Bausch said some aspect of the MoistureLoc formula may be increasing the relative risk of the eye infection in unusual circumstances.
However, the Food and Drug Administration said it found some manufacturing violations at Bausch & Lomb’s Greenville, but the violations aren’t related to the cause of Fusarium keratitis.
On the end of the day, FDA agreed with Bausch & Lomb that it appears that something in MoistureLoc’s formulation combined with certain use patterns that likely increases the risk of the infection.
By the way, the number of confirmed cases of fusarium keratitis in the United State has climbed to 122. Fusarium keratitis is an infection that can cause blindness.
FYI, Bausch & Lomb only removes MoistureLoc, but not other Renu products, including MultiPlus.
