Russia to Send First Malaysian to Space

According to a Russian site, Mosnews, The Russian company Rosoboronexport and the Malaysian Defense Ministry signed on Friday a contract for sending the first Malaysian astronaut to the International Space Station (ISS) in 2007.

Rosoboronexport Deputy Director-General Viktor Komardin and the Malaysian Defense Ministry Secretary General Subhan Jasmon have signed the contract for the space mission of the Malaysian astronaut.

The funding of the training of the Malaysian citizen for the space flight is a part of the contract for deliveries to Kuala Lumpur of multifunctional fighter-bombers Su-30 MKM. The price of the deal is almost 1 billion U.S. dollars.

There are four cadidates have been shortlisted from 11,000 applications.
