Urge and Microsoft Windows Media Player 11
Microsoft is trying very hard to get in controls in the digital music market, an Apple dominant market by it’s iTunes music download service.
Apple opened its iTunes Music Store three years ago. The company has sold more than a billion songs online, or about 80 percent of the worldwide market for Internet music downloads. Apple had failed many of it’s competitors such as Napster, Yahoo, RealNetworks’s Rhapsody, and MSN Music Store.Â
So, last week, Microsoft had launched it’s new Windows Media Player 11, with Urge feature to compete with iTunes.
Urge is wholly owned by MTV Networks, with Microsoft acting as the developer of the underlying technology. But Microsoft clearly has a strong commitment to the venture.
Windows Media Player 11Â looks and works little like older Media Player 10. A little upgrade of it’s interface and memory organizing, but I think, the most important for Microsoft is Urge.
If you want to upgrade your Media Player 10 to 11, you must have a genuine copy of Windows with Service Pack 2 installed.
