Recovering My Crash Web Site using Google

(Visited 1056 times)

On the Midnight of 21st December 2006, I just realized that I could not access my blog here in neyokes.com. I thought, it might be normal. May be, the line was too busy to handle the traffics or may be they were restarting the server. An hour later, still I could not access the web site.

Few hours later, still the same. So, I decided to report the problem to the web hosting provider. Unfortunately, their web site also could not be accessed. I tried several times in few hours, but no respon at all. Then, I gave up.

Later that day, at last, my web site was accessible again.

But, I realized that all my articles from November 21st to December 21st had disappeared. All my one month’s work had gone. I also did not have any back up. The latest backup was 21st November. Did not know what to do, I just accepted it.

Suddenly, a few minutes after that, I got an idea.

I went to Google search page and looking for my articles by typing “site: neyokes.com”. All my lost articles’ links were there. Thanks God, I also could see my articles again at Google’s cache! but.. without images. There were no images at Google’s caches because I had disabled any hotlink to my images from outside.

So, I just copied the articles and pasted it back to my site. Yes, it was a lot of works, but at least I do not have to type all those articles again!

What a relief!

Unfortunately, a few days after that, that is today, I realized that I forgot to edit the timestamps in some of the articles. As a result, some links from Google are missing and redirected to 404 page. This is because my articles’ permalink is using the timestamp. May be, Google will refresh the link in a few days.

I hope, my idea would be useful for you.
